A highly desirable 1954 Bank of Canada 1000 Dollar note from the famous "Devil's Face" series. The nickname originated from an optical illusion in the hair of Queen Elizabeth II's portrait, where the engraved shading appeared to resemble a grinning devil's face. Although unintentional, the design became one of the most famous and collectible varieties in Canadian numismatics before it was modified in later printings.
In 1954, 1000 Dollars represented an extraordinary amount of money—equivalent to several months' salary for many Canadians, enough to purchase a new automobile, or make a substantial down payment on a home. These notes were primarily used for large financial transactions between banks and businesses, making surviving high-grade examples especially desirable.
Certified Very Choice UNC64 by Legacy Grading, this note remains fully uncirculated with exceptional paper quality, sharp detail, and outstanding eye appeal. Its combination of high denomination, famous "Devil's Face" variety, and premium uncirculated grade makes it a centerpiece for any collection of Canadian paper money.
An exceptional and historically significant banknote, ideal for collectors of Canadian numismatics, Bank of Canada issues, Devil's Face notes, and world paper money.
